South Africa were dealt a big blow in the pace department after Morne Morkel was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to a quad strain. The paceman hobbled off the field after just 6.5 overs against India on Friday and an MRI scan later confirmed the injury.
With Dale Steyn still to recover from an injury he sustained during the warm-up game against Pakistan, South Africa find themselves severely hampered. While they still wait for Steyn to recover, CSA have named uncapped Chris Morris as Morkel’s replacement.
Morris has played just two T20Is for South Africa. His first stint with the Chennai Super Kings this year was a successful one where he picked up 15 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 8.02. He will join South Africa’s squad on Saturday.
