Sanjay Patel, joint secretary of the Baroda Cricket Association, has been appointed as the interim secretary of the BCCI after the resignation of Sanjay Jagdale last Friday. The post of the treasurer that was vacated by Ajay Shirke will be filled in a couple of days.
The announcement was made by BCCI's interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya at a press conference in Kolkata on Thursday, after Jagdale and Shirke refused to reconsider their decision.
Patel has been actively involved in cricket administration for over 10 years, and is also a member of the IPL governing council and the finance committee of the BCCI.
"It's an interim arrangement but the majority of the senior BCCI officials showed faith in me which in turn encouraged me to take up this role in this challenging time. I am fully confident that I will perform the duties to the best of my abilities and do justice to the role," Patel said.
"Our endeavour will be to clean up the mess and I can assure you that guilty won't go unpunished," he added.
